관계사(relative)는 등위접속사 와 종속접속사로 나눌 수 있다.
등위 접속사는 and but or so for 등으로 두 문장이 된다.
종속접속사는 what who where that 등으로 하나의 문장이 된다.

i bought a new phone. it is waterproof.
/ 나는 새 전화기를 샀다. 그것은 방수가 된다.

위 2문장을 접속사로 연결하면 다음과 같다.
i bought a new phone and it is waterproof.
접속사(and)는 단순히 2문장을 연결하는 역할 == 등위 접속사

위 문장을 관계사로 연결하면 다음과 같다.
i bought a new phone that is waterproof.
관계사는 2문장을 연결하면서 2번째 문장의 주어(it) 역할
접속사(and) + 대명사(it) = 관계대명사(that)

관계사의 종류
관계대명사, 관계형용사, 관계부사로 나눠질 수 있는데,
용어에서 알 수 있듯이 품사로 나눈 것.

접속사 + 부사 = 관계부사

관계사가 형용사절을 이끄는 경우

관계부사(where)이 이끄는 절이 선행사(the city)를 꾸며주는 형용사 역할

관계사(where)는 선행사(the city)를 대신 i was born in the city.
