 매우 어색하고 거의 쓰이지 않음.

1) 단 음절 단어 : 자음은 둘이라도 좋다.

(가) [자 +모] : 하나의 모음이 자음 뒤에 오면 모음은 장음이 난다.

(나) [모 +자] : 하나의 모음이 자음 앞에 오면 단음이 난다.

at/æt/[애^앝] egg/eg/[액] it/it/[��] odd/ad/[��]

2) 한 음절 단어 : 자음은 둘이라도 좋다.

(가) [자 +모 +자] : 하나의 모음이 자음 사이에 오면 단음이 난다.

bag/bæg/[배^악] pen/pen/[팬] pin/pin/[핀]

(나) [자 +모 +자 +e] : 하나의 모음이 자음 사이에 있고 단어 끝에 e가 붙으면

앞의 모음은 장음이 나고 끝의 e는 묵음이 된다.

(다) 예외(i) 의 발음 : “자+모+자+e”에서 끝에 e가 오지 않아도

“-igh” “-ight” “-ign” “-ild” “-imb”“-ind” 등은

i/ai/[아이]로 읽는다.(*물론 예외는 있다. gild/gild/[길드] 등 )
