명사, 대명사, 동명사 앞에서 그 낱말과 다른 낱말과의 관계를 나타내고

[~에서, ~까지, ~에 ] 등으로 해석이 되어 뒤에 오는 낱말에 붙는다.

1. above /ə.bʌ́v/ : [~보다 위치가 높은, 위쪽의] (opp) below

2. across /ə.krɔ́:s/ : [~을 가로질러] 

* 한쪽에서 다른 쪽으로 가로지름을 강조함.

3. against /ə.génst/ : ~을 향하여, ~에 대해서, ~에 부딪치어. 

~와 마주 대하여.

1. above :

q 1 우리의 비행기[는] plane 구름 the cloud 위[를] above

나르고 있다 is flying.

(our) (plane) (is) (flying) (above) (the) (clouds).
